More Customising Options For METCASE UNICASE Instrument Enclosures

06-03-2012

Instrument EnclosuresMore customisation options are now available for UNICASE instrument enclosures from METCASE.

Customisation options for these aluminium enclosures include CNC milling, drilling, punching, folding, silk-screen printing and custom colours, along with custom front panels and internal components.

However, more recently the most popular customising option has become custom sizes. Unlike plastic instrument enclosures, the UNICASE enclosures can be supplied in special sizes where the height, width and depth dimensions can all be specified to suit existing PCBs, chassis and electronic assemblies.

Moreover, uniquely in the market, METCASE does not demand a large minimum order quantity for this service. Typically just 10 units are required.

As a result, a growing number of electronics designers are benefiting from the customisation services offered by METCASE, the metal enclosures division of OKW Enclosures Ltd.

UNICASE desktop enclosures represent a popular range for METCASE. They are used in a wide range of applications including test and measurement equipment, machine controllers, peripheral devices, switchboxes, medical systems and laboratory equipment.

Recently METCASE extended the range with the new UNICASE SL electronic enclosures in four standard sizes with external dimensions from 130 x 180 x 50 mm to 250 x 300 x 50 mm.

The top and base covers of UNICASE equipment enclosures are supplied powder painted Light Grey (RAL 7035) or Black (RAL 9005) and have an attractive bevelled edge. The covers are secured to the two internal assembly extrusions, which include guide rails for mounting PCBs and chassis plates. The anodised front and rear panels are also secured to the assembly extrusions.

The internal chassis is formed by the front panels and assembly extrusions. It can be used for assembly and testing of the electronics, prior to final assembly of the top and base covers.

The front and rear panels are recessed in the covers by 8 mm for protection of the displays, controls and connectors. Four non-slip rubber feet are included in the kit. Prices start at £33.

METCASE Sales & Marketing Director Robert Cox said: “There is now a much wider choice of customisation options available, making standard enclosures a more attractive and cost effective option than ever before.

“Specifying a standard enclosure that can be easily and cost effectively customised gives designers the best of both worlds,” he added.
