Double active STN (DASTN) technology not only utilises an extra dummy cell to compenstate light dispersion, it also enables this cell to be fully active as a display, meaning the reproduction of 2 entirely different images. This would be suitable for advanced automotive displays as well as niche industrial and consumer applications where simply one dot matrix or segment series of information is not enough.
