High Performance UVC LEDs for Instrumentation, Spectroscopy and Monitoring
High Performance UVC LEDs for Instrumentation, Spectroscopy and Monitoring Optan high performance UVC LEDs from Crystal IS offer the highest light output and the longest lifetimes of any UVC LED. The Optan range was developed on proprietary AlN (aluminium nitride) substrates and cutting-edge LED fabrication technology. Available in wavelengths from 250nm – 280nm, Optan LEDs are housed in a TO-39 can with a ball lens. Optan is ideal for environmental monitoring, many life science applications, and as a light source for spectroscopy; the excellent spectral quality of Optan LEDs maximizes measurement accuracy and sensitivity in absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. Manufacturers of instruments may also be able to realise performance benefits and lower system costs by replacing UV lamps with Optan UVC LEDs (see apps note on the Pacer website) UVC LEDs are monochromatic—so filters are not needed to remove undesired wavelengths. This allows instruments using UVC LEDs to only measure a specific wavelength. Another advantage is that UVC LEDs can be switched on and off instantly, conserving energy. Once turned on, UVC LEDs reach their full brightness and stability in under a microsecond and do not have a prolonged glow when turned off. Junction temperature and power supply performance will affect light stability in UVC LEDs, but both can be easily managed.
