Generators are mainly used in standby applications to eliminate the threat of long term mains failures or current cut-off. However they can also be used in isolated places as the main source of current when the electrical network does not exist. A generator usually provides a longer run time solution than a UPS only solution, however when used in conjunction with a UPS you can achieve long run time back up solution with a seemless transition from the failure of the mains to the ignition of the generator, minimising down time and maximising availability.
