Even though uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) are designed to condition and protect power to your load, they still require regular servicing and maintenance.

Maintenance visits often require a shutdown of the UPS. If an external maintenance bypass switch (EMBS) is not part of the system this means shutting down the connected load. An external maintenance bypass switch (EMBS) allows the engineer to switch to direct mains if maintenance is needed or a problem occurs, then switch back to UPS when the problem is solved without any shutdown or down time to the connected load.
