High Radiation Potentiometric Encoder
High Radiation Potentiometric EncoderThis encoder was designed to operate in extreme radiation levels of the type where conventional optoelectronics were unable to be used.
The solution arrived at utilised metal etchings rather than glass components and provided an analogue backup signal via a wirewound potentiometer to act as a cross reference against the digital signal generated by a multi-turn incremental encoder. In this way the unit was able to successfully perform in hazardous areas of 100,000,000 Rads.
