Unitemp Joins the Race at Work Charter, Pledging to Promote Ethnic Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace

01-02-2024

We’re thrilled to share the exciting news that Unitemp has officially become a signatory to the Business in the Community (BITC) Race at Work Charter. This meaningful step underscores our unwavering commitment to addressing the inequalities that ethnic minorities face in employment and progression. In today’s world, diversity and inclusion are more important than ever. Despite progress in these areas, ethnic minorities continue to encounter significant disparities in the workplace. It’s time for change—a change that creates an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of their background, has equal opportunities for recruitment and career advancement. By joining the Race at Work Charter, Unitemp has embraced the seven calls to action outlined by BITC, aimed at promoting ethnic diversity and representation across all sectors. The Race at Work Charter calls on businesses to: • Appoint an Executive Sponsor for race • Capture data and publicize progress • Ensure zero tolerance of harassment and bullying • Make equality in the workplace the responsibility of all leaders and managers • Take action that supports ethnic minority career progression • Support race inclusion allies in the workplace • Include Black, Asian, Mixed Race, and other ethnically diverse-led enterprise owners in supply chains Launched in 2018, the Race at Work Charter builds upon the findings of the 2017 McGregor-Smith Review, which highlighted the underemployment, underpromotion, and under-representation of individuals from Black, Asian, Mixed Race, and ethnically diverse backgrounds at senior levels. By signing this Charter, Unitemp demonstrates its determination to take practical steps in creating a workplace that reflects the rich diversity of British society today. As part of our commitment, Unitemp will focus on implementing key strategies to confront these barriers head-on. We are dedicated to promoting a culture of inclusion, where employees from all ethnic backgrounds are valued and respected. Our goal is to eliminate bias and discrimination in recruitment, ensuring fair access to opportunities for everyone. “Joining the Race at Work Charter is a significant step for Unitemp,” said Jack Brown, Sales Director at Unitemp. “We firmly believe that diversity and inclusion are vital for fostering innovation, driving business success, and creating a fair and equitable society. By signing this Charter, we make a firm commitment to driving positive change and ensuring that our workplace reflects the rich diversity of the communities we serve.” Sandra Kerr CBE, Race Director, Business in the Community, said: “We would like to thank [insert company name] for publicly committing to be an inclusive and responsible employer. By signing up to the charter, they are joining over 900 businesses who are working together so that the UK can have one of the most inclusive workplaces in the world. By taking collective action, we can break down workplace barriers, raise the aspirations and achievements of talented individuals regardless of their ethnicity and deliver an enormous boost to the long-term economic position of the UK.” To learn more about the Race at Work Charter and its mission, visit the official Business in the Community website at https://www.bitc.org.uk/race/.
