Optical Level Switches
The Optical Level switches are a modern way of monitoring fluid levels and are more robust than conventional float switches as there are no moving parts. They work by emitting a beam of Infra-red light within a prism that is reflected back on to a sensor. The presence of fluid over the prism creates a change in the amount of light received by the light sensor.
As the sensor is constantly monitoring whether there is fluid present or not it can be used for many different applications where fluid management is required, ie to shut off a pump or to stop a tank from overflowing.
The only thing to bear in mind with these switches is that the fluid must not leave any residue as this would eventually coat the prism and stop the switching process.
The Optical switch is available in Polycarbonate as standard, Polysulfone or in 304 & 316 grade stainless steel for use in the food industry. All the models have an LED status light indicating the condition of the switch, a 2 metre lead and are sealed and rated to IP68. Also with the option of customised leads and connectors to save on installation time we believe that this product is ideal for use in the food processing industry and fluid level control industry.
