Vix works with Mobius Networks to deliver roaming SIMs in Dorset

20-05-2012

Innovative technology is being used to provide up to the minute Real Time Passenger Information for public transport passengers in Dorset.

The solution which sees the first UK deployment of roaming SIM cards is being provided by Vix and data SIM supplier Mobius Networks as part of the Olympics upgrade project. These SIM cards are installed in the Vix equipment to enable them to provide the GPS data connection for Real Time Passenger updates.

Over 175 Real Time Information displays are being deployed by Vix across Weymouth and Portland in order to provide the public with live updates of bus arrival times. In order to ensure the information on these signs is instantaneous and as accurate as possible, the project sees the first UK use of roaming SIM cards (Mobius Connect SIM). These multi operator SIM cards automatically roams to use the mobile network providing the best signal at that specific location, thus providing a more consistent and reliable service.

Peter Simm of Mobius Networks comments “The innovative roaming SIM provides many benefits, particularly to those in rural areas who may struggle with inconsistent mobile coverage and allows Vix to provide a more consistent service to their customers.”

Michael Hart, Head of Sales for Vix commented “We are delighted to be working with Mobius Networks to deploy the innovative roaming SIM. Ultimately this means that we can provide more reliable information to public transport users, which is good news for everyone.”
