Swansea based electrical and mechanical assembly manufacturer SIC Ltd hosted a visit from Economy, Science and Transport Minister Edwina Hart on Tuesday as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations. SIC (formally Swansea Industrial Components) is a real success story in the manufacturing industry which was founded with just a handful of employees in 1964 by current Managing Director Layton Roberts initially to service the white goods industry. Half a century on from their inception, SIC is one of the UK’s leading electrical manufacturers, supplying over 450 customers across 24 diverse sectors including the aerospace, rail, automotive and medical industries both nationally and internationally and for many years has been and still remains to be one of South Wales’ foremost private sector employers. Layton Roberts was pleased to welcome the Minister with a tour of the facilities, showcasing the considerable manufacturing resources that have been built up over 50 years in the manufacturing industry and commented “We are extremely privileged to have this opportunity to welcome the Minister to our business. As a Wales based business, the work carried out by her and the Welsh Government generally, has played a significant role in assisting us to grow and to access new markets.” Layton Roberts Edwina Hart During the visit the Minister had the opportunity of meeting staff across the business many of whom had been with SIC for in excess of 30 years. Layton Roberts is quick to recognise that the loyalty, commitment and dedication of SIC’s work force has been a major contributory factor in helping to make the company what it is today. Throughout their history SIC has continued to reinvest heavily in the business and currently manufactures the very latest in technological electronics and electrical assemblies. Operations Director Anthony Roberts says that they are now looking forward to the next 50 years of continued growth. Anthony commentated “Our growth and development as a company has not come overnight, our investment has always been a long term strategy to provide us with the highest skilled production capabilities as well as the infrastructure to deal with any size project. It’s exactly this approach that has supported our business since our inception in 1964 and it’s what we expect to keep us around for another 50 years, designing, manufacturing and supplying the highest quality product with the highest quality service to each and every one of our customers.”
