Identifying SCSI Interfaces

19-05-2016

HOW TO IDENTIFY SCSI Interface This is a Guide to help you identify and distinguish between SCSI and SAS and also the different variations / types of SCSI connections. ALL SCSI… 1. 50 PIN SCSI – This was the first industry standard interface. Capacity wise, SCSI is available up to 300GB, but years ago the very first sizes were 4.5GB to 9GB. Often these days, if you see anything under 18Gb then its most likely to be “50 Pin SCSI”. For example – Seagate model number ST34520N or ST318418N. These are very old disks and go back quite some time, but you can still see them kicking about, especially in SUN, Unix, Amiga and SGI machines. The standard for these disks used to be the old 5.25″ half height form factor but that is really old, pretty much all of the 50pin disks you see these days are 3.5″.
