Satellite uplink and outside broadcasting specialist SIS LIVE has used RF over fibre technology to connect its new Blue Tower headquarters at MediaCityUK to their satellite teleport on Trafford Wharf. SIS LIVE use two diverse optical fibre routes, the longer route being over 16Km, using course wave division multiplexing (CWDM). A total of 80 circuits, over 70 of which are L-band, are carried over the link. “We needed a robust and reliable method for connecting the new teleport to the Production Centre which are on opposite sides of the Manchester Ship Canal", said Stephen Herbert, SIS LIVE’s Head of Commercial Contracts, who managed this project. "Fibre optic links were the obvious choice and after comparing a number of different products we chose the PPM Vialite system. The system has been live for a number of weeks and, as any good transmission system should be, is entirely invisible to the users."
